Every summer our community sponsors a kids conference for children aged 5 to 17 years old. While it can be used in place of daycare for the week, it is mainly a place for kids to come and express how they feel about the world today.

Each day of the Kids Conference focuses on different aspects of society that directly affects the children. At the end of the day, the counselors have the children debate the different issues that have to do with the day’s subject. You would be amazed at how these children grasp different concepts, and what they understand.

We strive to bring children to the kids conference that might not normally consider attending. The children that may have never had an adult that would listen to them, or take the time to try and explain things to them. They bring a new perspective to the children that have a solid family structure, and usually have different concerns they would like to talk about. As the week moves on, both sets of children start to merge, the differences fading away.

Children are innately good. They can still see the wonders the world has to offer. Watching them open up, to share dreams, reminds us all that there is always hope. Is it that the children are too young to truly understand, or is it that as adults, we have become too tainted, too cynical to believe?
